97-Year-Old WWII Veteran Impresses the Crowds With His Annual Fitness Challenge on His Birthday. He Continues To Inspire Others

Arizona-based World War II veteran David Keaggy celebrates his 97th birthday by carrying 100 pounds for 100 yards at his local gym.

He Pushed Himself to the Limits

Mesa resident David Keaggy, a World War II veteran, defies age expectations and showcases his unwavering physical fitness on his 97th birthday by undertaking an extraordinary challenge at a local gym. 

For over six decades, Keaggy has pushed himself to the limits, proving that dedication to physical fitness can be the key to maintaining a vibrant and youthful life.

David Keaggy attributes his longevity and vitality to a lifetime of physical activity, beginning during his time in the U.S. Air Force. 

To commemorate his milestone birthday, he participated in an annual fitness challenge that he has faithfully pursued since his 20s.

A World War II Veteran

Keaggy’s journey began with an impressive accomplishment of 85 push-ups in under a minute, and since then, he has continued to push boundaries. 

On his 70th birthday, he jumped out of a plane, while his 82nd birthday saw him bench-pressing 225 pounds. When he turned 90, he marked the occasion with 83 consecutive push-ups.

This year, at Mountainside Fitness, Keaggy set out to carry 100 pounds for 100 yards, an impressive feat that showcased his strength and determination. 

He embarked on the challenging course by carrying a 40-pound weight in one hand, a 30-pound weight in the other, and wearing 15 pounds of ankle weights.

Local News Followed His Story

Encouraged by a supportive crowd, including local news crews, Keaggy persevered and crossed the finish line to the sound of cheerful birthday wishes. 

Reflecting on the experience, he humbly expressed his surprise at the reception he received.

Witnessing Keaggy’s incredible display of resilience left fellow gym-goers in awe, inspiring them to prioritize their own health and fitness goals. 

One member expressed admiration, stating, “I hope I’m doing the same at his age, I mean that’s what motivates me to come to the gym is people like this.”

“I Recommend It for Anybody That Wants To Live To Be 100”

Another individual shared how Keaggy’s achievements served as a catalyst for leading a healthier lifestyle.

In interviews with Arizona’s ABC 15 News, Keaggy conveyed his recommendation for maintaining a fulfilling life: “It works, and I recommend it for anybody that wants to live to be 100.” 

Fueled by an unwavering determination, he eagerly anticipates his 100th birthday in three years, leaving everyone curious and excited about what incredible feat he will conquer next.
