During a recent appearance on MSNBC, retired Four-Star General Barry McCaffrey offered a stark warning about the potential chaos that could unfold if Trump were to return to the White House. Here’s the full story.
“Better Worry About It”
McCaffrey, a highly respected military figure with decades of service, offered his thoughts addressing the potential ramifications of another Trump presidency.
In his remarks, McCaffrey referenced historical precedents, including the descent of civilized nations into autocracy, particularly drawing parallels to 1930s Germany.
“A Danger to the Republic”
“The next time around, if you decapitate the institutions — the FBI, the CIA, Homeland Security and put loyalists without a sense of respect for the law in there, we could be in trouble. There’s always an assumption — that couldn’t happen here. The 1930s Germany was a civilized nation that descended into autocracy, so we better worry about it,” he said.
“Trump is a leading contender, and this is not a political statement — he’s entirely unqualified to be the commander-in-chief. He’s a danger to the republic and that’s where we stand,” he continued.
“An Ignorant Man of the First Order”
“To have a president, an ignorant man of the first order… we were vulnerable to having a president in office with immense authority who truly lacked any character,” he added.
However, General McCaffrey’s concerns are not isolated.
Other prominent voices in American politics have echoed similar sentiments like William Cohen, a Republican former senator from Maine.
Cohen shared his apprehensions about the possibility of Trump garnering enough support from voters to secure a second term in the highest office.
Fear of Reelection
“I think we have a lot to fear with a possible reelection or election of Donald Trump,” Cohen said during an interview on CNN.
He added, “Donald Trump is the Founding Fathers’ worst nightmare.”
Cohen’s worries were further fueled by a profile of outgoing Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley.
Milley had confided in friends that if Trump was elected, he would “start throwing people in jail” with Milley himself fearing that he would be among those targeted.
Trump Facing Scrutiny
Cohen endorsed Milley’s thoughts, suggesting that Trump’s past actions and rhetoric provided a basis for such concerns.
Trump’s behavior has been a subject of ongoing scrutiny.
For instance, in response to a poll questioning his mental competence, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, and wrote, “Phony and probably rigged Wall Street Journal poll,”
“Where did that come from? A few years ago I was the only one to agree to a mental acuity test, & ACED IT. Now that the Globalists at Fox & the WSJ have failed to push their 3rd-tier candidate to success, they do this. Well, I hereby challenge Rupert Murdoch & Sons, Biden, WSJ heads, to acuity tests!” he added.
“Just One Anti-Trumper Telling a Story”
Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “I did NOT trust you when you were on active duty and I don’t trust you now.”
Another user added, “Is there any video or audio, maybe an eye witness to back up this TV general claim? Without either of those it’s just one anti-Trumper telling a “story”.”
A third user commented, “I had heard that before, but it still enrages me every time I hear it again. There is literally nothing that could happen to Trump that is bad enough to count as atonement for his crimes.”
A fourth user wrote, “Trump clearly has no empathy or concern for others, captain Avril is still making a difference thank you, sir.”
