Amy Morton was born on January 1, 1958, in Oak Park. Since 1997, she has been part of Steppenwolf Theater Company’s core group of performers, and she worked in the Chicago theater community for the bulk of her career.
The actress appeared on Broadway for the first time as Nurse Ratched, in one of the Tony Award-winning productions of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, in which she starred alongside Gary Sinise as Nurse Ratched.
Barbara is the character she created in Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County, which she portrayed both on the Chicago and Broadway stages. Her work in the play earned her a Tony Award nomination and a Drama Desk nomination. At the end of 2008, she appeared in a production of the play at the National Theater in London.
Morton has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, notably Rookie of the Year, Up in the Air, 8mm and Straight Talk, along with shows like Crime Story and The Equalizer, to name a few.
