In a surprising turn of events during a White House press briefing on August 28, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre found herself stifling laughter as Fox News journalist Peter Doocy posed an unexpected question. Here’s the whole story.
“Where Is This — Where Is This Coming From?”
“Does President Biden want to limit Americans to two beers a week?” asked the Fox News journalist. Jean-Pierre laughed and replied, “Where is this — where is this coming from?”
Doocy elaborated on the question by citing Dr. George Koob, the director of the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, who had suggested that the United States might consider following Canada’s lead and recommending a limit of two beers per week.
Sensing the audience’s amusement, he playfully asked, “How do you guys think that’s going to go over?” In response, Jean-Pierre remained amused but steered clear of taking a definitive stance.
Would Biden Be Okay With the Proposed Two-Beer-Per-Week Limit?
She was confused about the peculiar question and said, “Let me tell you what I’m not going to get involved in — in that question right there.”
She said, “I — I have no idea. I’ve not seen the data. I cannot speak to this. I will leave it to the experts and not weigh in.”
Doocy, however, persisted, pressing Jean-Pierre on whether President Biden would be okay with the proposed two-beer-per-week limit.
Maintaining her stance, Jean-Pierre once again said, “I will leave it to the experts. I’m just not going to comment on that.”
A Reduction in Suggested Alcohol Consumption
Despite the unclear answer, President Biden imposing a two-beer-per-week limit on Americans is highly unlikely and was not substantiated by official statements or policy proposals.
Dr. George Koob’s comments about a potential reduction in suggested alcohol consumption were not as cut-and-dried as implied.
Dr. Koob merely indicated that he didn’t anticipate the suggested consumption level to increase in number, and he hinted that any guideline changes might align more closely with Canada’s standards.
However, this does not translate to an enforced limit of two beers per week.
It’s Currently Two Beers per Day
In reality, the suggested beer consumption is currently set at two beers per day, which is quite different from the humorous notion of two beers per week posed in the press briefing.
Furthermore, even the suggested consumption of two beers per day is not an enforced legal limit but a guideline for responsible alcohol use.
Several social media users expressed their thoughts on the incident.
“Soon Biden Will Be Gone Then She Is Out of a Job”
One user wrote, “It seems a certain group of individuals does not know the definition of “recommend.” I don’t know if this is a limitation or intentional.”
Another user added, “Her day is coming and her time as the press secretary is short and she knows it soon Biden will be gone then she is out of a job.”
