The co-hosts of “The View” engaged in a fiery exchange on the popular talk show’s Thursday, September 14th episode, with Sunny Hostin’s comments about the 2024 election and Vice President Kamala Harris. Here’s the whole story.
Kamala’s Role and Popularity
As the conversation unfolded, the focus shifted toward Kamala Harris’s decreasing popularity and her potential role in the upcoming election.
Sunny Hostin, an author and co-host on the show, took a strong stance, emphasizing the importance of retaining Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate.
Hostin began by highlighting the Black vote’s critical role in recent Democratic victories, saying, “Over the past five elections, where you’ve had a Democrat win, they needed the Black vote. Ninety-one percent of African-Americans voted for Biden and will continue to vote for Biden if Kamala is his running mate.”
“Be Very Careful”
She then delivered a direct message to President Biden, saying, “I would be very careful, President Biden, about getting rid of Kamala Harris because we will not support you.”
Hostin’s remarks immediately drew a strong response from Whoopi Goldberg, one of the show’s co-hosts.
Goldberg replied, “Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! Hold up!”
Goldberg acknowledged Hostin’s and asked, “I know your opinion is valid and beautiful and all of that. But when was the last time you saw anybody get rid of a vice president?”
Losing the Black Vote
The discussion continued with input from other co-hosts, but Hostin remained steadfast in her stance.
She said, “If Biden gets rid of Kamala Harris and inserts someone else, he will lose the Black vote.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin raised a hypothetical scenario, questioning Hostin about her willingness to support Biden if the 2024 election came down to Biden versus Donald Trump.
Sitting Out the Election
Griffin asked, “You would really sit out an election? Are you not throwing away your vote by not supporting Biden if he drops Harris?”
Hostin’s response appeared to avoid directly addressing the situation, leading Whoopi Goldberg to step in.
Goldberg said, “I’m sorry, y’all. [Harris] is not going anywhere. Let’s start with that.”
“So this is a lot of hypothetical B.S. meant to make your mind explode,” she added.
The exchange on “The View” generated a considerable response from viewers.
“Zero Respect for Black People”
One Twitter user wrote, “Why was Sunny Hostin warning President Biden about some b******* regarding Kamala? Sunny? Not a good look.”
Another user added, “She is such a nasty racist that has zero respect for black people and thinks they can’t think for themselves.”
A third user commented, “Unfortunately, there is a big difference between voting for what you hope for and voting for what you know. In 2020, we thought we were getting Obama 2.0, but now we know we got the wish version of that at best. Neither choice is great. Be real about that.”
A fourth user wrote, “Do you think black people vote for Biden because of Harris? How dumb would that be? Should white people only vote for white people?”
