The number of illegal immigrants crossing the United States at the southern border is higher than ever. Despite the record-breaking numbers, Biden’s press secretary said he has done more than anyone else to secure the country’s borders. Here’s the full story.
“The President Missed the Meeting Because He ‘Has a Lot on His Plate’”
President Biden missed a meeting with New York Governor Kathy Hochul to discuss the migrant crisis in New York. Although he couldn’t attend, Bident sent Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas along with his chief of staff.
Biden said he has a “very good relationship” with the governor. The White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, said the president missed the meeting because he “has a lot on his plate.”
Jean-Pierre defended the president’s absence from the meeting. She said the fact that Biden had “his top people” meeting with Hochul showed how important the meeting was to him.
Jean-Pierre was asked what she “would say to congressional Democrats who are upset that the White House has not done more to secure the border through executive action.”
“The President Has Done More To Secure the Border, To Deal With This Issue of Immigration, Than Anybody Else”
The press secretary replied saying, “The president has done more to secure the border, to deal with this issue of immigration, than anybody else.” She ended the statement with, “He really has!”
According to Jean-Pierre, “June saw the single largest month-to-month drop in unlawful border crossings because of the policies this president put in place.” She also said there were a “record number” of federal agents and officers working at the border “because of the funding this president secured.”
During the press briefing, Jean-Pierre said the president has done “what he can” to manage the border in a “safe and humane” way that is respectful to every human.
“They Literally Welded Open the Gates [At the Border] So They Can’t Close”
X user Corey Chaloner said, “They literally welded open the gates [at the border] so they can’t close.” Corey called this move the “opposite of securing” the southern border.
Jean-Pierre called the system “broken” and said that Republicans “refuse to work with the White House in a bipartisan way.”
The press secretary said the White House is willing to work with Congress and with Republicans, but “they keep turning it into a political stunt.”
Fellow Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview that immigration is the Biden administration’s biggest weakness. She said, “This is one area where our policy is dictated by politics.”
“They Fear Political Repercussions”
Ocasio-Cortez said she and other “progressive lawmakers” have made policy recommendations to the Biden administration, but they don’t listen because “they fear political repercussions.”
The recommendations and suggestions would provide relief on the immigration crisis in the United States, said Ocasio-Cortez.
After hearing about what the White House Press Secretary said, one X user questioned if the remarks were actually regarding the “Ukraine border” because of how much support the Biden administration has sent to Ukraine.
Ryan Wasielewski fought back saying Biden “has done less than anyone.” He called Biden a “domestic terrorist” who has “purposefully made things worse.”
“They Just Bold Face Lie to the Whole Country Daily. They Don’t Even Care That Everybody Knows It’s Not True”
@Erich2theB posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying, “They just bold face lie to the whole country daily. They don’t even care that everybody knows it’s not true.”
One person excused Biden, saying the immigration crisis was “Trump’s fault, no question.” One reply to this comment argued that former President Trump “had the borders under control hours after he took office.”
“While Biden Refuses To Secure the Border,” Texas Is Taking Matters Into Their Own Hands to “Stop Illegal Immigrants, Deadly Drugs, and Weapons From Entering Our Country”
Cities and states across America are overwhelmed with migrants who have entered the country illegally. During 2022, Federal authorities reported “more than 2.3 million arrests” along the US – Mexico border.
Texas Governor Greg Abbot said, “while Biden refuses to secure the border,” Texas is taking matters into their own hands to “stop illegal immigrants, deadly drugs, and weapons from entering our country.”
