BrandYourself History
In 2010, three Syracuse University students founded BrandYourself. Those involved were Patrick Ambron, Pete Kistler, and Evan McGowan-Watson.
Inspiration came from Kistler’s inability to get hired as a computer programmer in the year 2008 because there was a drug dealer by his name.
The mainstream media picked up on his situation. According to NPR, the story that the computer guy Kistler was mistaken for a drug dealer gained credibility over time, although they couldn’t locate a drug dealer with the name Pete Kistler.
BrandYourself has helped a number of brands and individuals rank higher in search engine results using its services and technology. Thousands of people have improved their reputation and internet privacy with these tools.
BrandYourself’s Shark Tank Deal
In his pitch to the Sharks, Patrick asked for two million dollars in exchange for around 13.5% of his company. The sharks did not accept any of BrandYourself’s offers, and the two parties did not reach a deal.
