Hillary Clinton was asked about Donald Trump’s MAGA supporters during an interview this week, and she suggested they are “cult members” who could benefit from “formal deprogramming.” She also took aim at Trump himself and urged Americans not to vote for him during the upcoming 2024 Presidential election.
A New Interview With Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton, who ran against Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential Election and lost, sat down for an interview with CNN this week. During this interview, Clinton was asked about Trump and his Make America Great Again supporters.
She denounced the MAGA crowd and wondered how anyone could still support Trump in the aftermath of the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol building.
Comparing MAGA Supporters to “Cult Members”
Clinton went as far as to compare Trump’s MAGA supporters to members of a cult. She also suggested that some of these MAGA supporters might be able to benefit from going through a deprogramming process to bring them back into reality. “Maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members,” Clinton said.
Taking Aim at Donald Trump
Clinton also took shots at Trump himself while speaking with CNN and discussing his MAGA supporters. She blamed Trump for radicalizing a portion of the U.S. population and blasted him for being self-centered.
“Sadly, so many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure,” she said. “He’s only in it for himself.”
Urging Americans Not to Vote for Trump
Clinton predicted that Trump would probably be the Republican candidate for President when the 2024 presidential election rolls around. But she asked Americans to think twice before deciding to cast a vote for him.
She also insinuated that voting for current President Joe Biden over Trump should really be a no-brainer for the country. “One will wreck our democracy. One violates the law on a regular basis,” Clinton said.
“One appeals to the worst in our collective psyche. The other gets things done. Why is that a hard choice?”
MAGA’s Response
Trump himself hasn’t responded to Clinton’s jabs just yet. But a spokesperson for Make America Great Again, Inc. has already denounced her comments and compared her “formal deprogramming” idea to the many re-education camps that have been put in place all across the world over time.
“President Trump has said countless times that they are only coming after him because he stands in their way from coming after you — and Hillary Clinton just confirmed that to be true,” the spokesperson said.
“Tens of millions of Americans will reject the Democratic Party’s re-education camp agenda in November 2024 when we make Donald Trump the 47th President of the United States.”
Touching On Kevin McCarthy’s Ouster
Clinton did more than just talk about Trump and his MAGA supporters during her CNN interview. She also spoke about Kevin McCarthy getting ousted as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives recently and blasted far-right members of the House for their decision to kick him to the curb.
“He was not continuing to be captive to the far-right extremists,” Clinton said, “so they toppled him. It was a very small number as you look at the vote. But now we’re reaping the consequences of their behavior.”
She also said she hopes the next Speaker of the House stands up to this group. “At some point, there needs to be a backlash against the control that this small group of extremists have,” she said. “I don’t know who will lead that, but let’s hope whoever becomes the new Speaker will.”
