Erika and Cody Archie have sparked controversy on TikTok with their bold move to charge their daughter rent right after high school graduation.
Contributing Financially
Erika and Cody Archie’s TikTok video about their 19-year-old daughter Kylee paying rent has stirred up mixed reactions.
The couple revealed that they asked Kylee to contribute financially just two weeks after she finished school.
“200 bucks a month is pretty cheap to live like a grub in your parents house,” the father said in a cold statement.
Erik followed by saying, “It’s 300 a month if she wants to eat out the fridge.”
Life on the Ranch
Erika and Cody shared insights into their family life on their ranch, attracting a large following on TikTok.
Cody explained their rationale, stating that they asked for $200 a month in rent from Kylee, a decision that some considered harsh.
People in the comments section were divided on whether charging rent to a recent high school graduate was fair.
One user expressed support for their children, “A definite no for me… I know it’s rare, but I will forever help my kids… no matter the age.”
A Valuable Lesson
Another shared their own experience, “Graduated 2001, I paid my mom $500 for rent. Working while going to school.”
Some believe rent isn’t enough at such a young age, “when our kids turn 18, they start paying 200 for rent AND have to pay their own car insurance and phones. if they still live here at 21 it increases.”
One parent admitted to teaching their kids a valuable life lesson and rewarding them, “have them pay but put it up in a savings account ans when they move out you surprise them with the money that was paid.”
Would you charge your kids rent after they graduate? Or will you do everything you can to help them leave home early?
