McCormick is from Washington, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Pittsburgh. James McCormick, his father, served as president of Bloomsburg University and as chancellor of Pennsylvania State University system.
David Mccormick Education
David Mccormick graduated from Bloomsburg High School. McCormick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from West Point in 1987. The Army wrestling team honored him four times and he was co-captain of the team during his senior year.
The PhD he earned in 1996 was in international relations from Princeton’s School of Public and International Affairs. An honorary degree was awarded to McCormick by Dickinson College in 2021.

Most people know McCormick for his work at Bridgewater Associates. His career with the mega hedge fund began in 2009, and in 2017 he became the CEO. In addition to management, he advised large global investors such as sovereign wealth funds and central banks. According to reports, the firm manages about $150 billion. The company’s co-CEO Eileen Murray resigned at the end of 2019 leaving McCormick as its only CEO.
