The former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, recently shared her thoughts on Donald Trump’s latest comments about the possibility of not pardoning himself if he wins the 2024 election. Here’s the whole story.
“I Don’t Believe Him”
Trump had recently declared that it was unlikely he would pardon himself in the event of a criminal conviction or a potential return to the presidency.
During an interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, Clinton shared her thoughts expressing her doubts about Trump’s credibility.
“I don’t believe him on anything,” Clinton said.
“Why should I start believing him on that? Whenever [Trump] accuses somebody else of doing something, it’s almost guaranteed he’s doing it himself or he’s already done it,” she continued.
“Or whenever he denies thinking about doing something or doing it, it’s almost guaranteed he is thinking about it or he’s already done it,” she added.
Fourth Indictment
In August, Trump was indicted for the fourth time for his alleged involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
During an interview with Rachel Maddow in August, Clinton could not help but express her amazement at the unfolding situation.
Maddow asked, “All over the country, people are wondering what Hillary Rodham Clinton is thinking watching things unfold in Georgia.”
“Oh, I can’t believe this. Honestly, I didn’t think that it would be under these circumstances. Yet another set of indictments,” Clinton replied.
“A Terrible Moment for Our Country”
“I don’t know that anybody should be satisfied. This is a terrible moment for our country to have a former president accused of these terribly important crimes,” she continued.
“The only satisfaction is that the system is working. That all of the efforts by Trump and his allies and enablers to try and silence the truth and undermine democracy have been brought into the light. And justice is being pursued,” she added.
Clinton also drew attention to what she perceived as a willingness within a certain political party to embrace lies and an absence of conscience regarding the impact on the nation.
“Lack of Any Conscience”
“I hope that we won’t have accountability just for Donald Trump and if there are others named in these indictments along with him for their behavior but we will also have accountability for a political party that has just thrown in with all the lies and the divisiveness and the lack of any conscience about what has been done to the country,” she concluded.
Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “Why would anyone believe anything coming from the Orange grifter & chief?”
“A Convicted Felon as POTUS”
Another user added, “We have seen how much integrity matters to him. Why is our media even asking him if he will “pardon himself” when that’s not even a thing?? Let US tell him HE WILL NOT.”
A third user commented, “Of course, Trump would attempt to pardon himself if convicted and elected. But man – how did this country go so far down the crapper that we need to seriously discuss the possibility we’ll elect a convicted felon as POTUS?”
