The founder, Jessica Alba, was inspired to start her own company by her own illness as a child and the birth of her son, Honor, in 2008. She wanted to provide baby products free of synthetic fragrances and petrochemicals. She became committed to the project after a skin rash was caused by her mom’s baby laundry suggestions.

Some people aren’t fans of Honest: Customers complained that its sunscreen doesn’t work and the detergents aren’t as chemical-free as they claim. The company reformulated its detergent in 2017 without sodium coco sulfate, the controversial ingredient. 

It was reported that The Honest Company plans to shift from a purely online model to wholesale deals with businesses such as Target, Whole Foods, Costco, etc.
