Hunter Biden has recently filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service after his tax returns were disclosed during congressional hearings. Here’s the full story.
Assault on Biden’s Rights?
The lawsuit claims that Hunter Biden’s personal tax details were not only shared during the federal investigation but also during hearings and interviews.
Hunter views this as a direct assault on his confidentiality rights. In his lawsuit, Hunter Biden is seeking compensation of $1,000 for each disclosure of his tax information, along with the related legal fees.
The legal action is primarily directed at IRS agents Greg Shapley and Joe Ziegler, who acted as whistleblowers by accusing the DOJ of “slow-walking” the investigation when testifying in Congress.
Alleged Political Interferance
The heart of the matter revolves around political interference allegations in Hunter Biden’s tax case.
The Department of Justice, however, has consistently denied any political interference, saying that the investigation was being conducted without external pressures.
Currently, prosecutors have alleged that Hunter earned taxable income of at least $1.5 million in each of the calendar years 2017 and 2018 but did not pay income tax for those years.
This legal battle is further complicated by the current political landscape.
“Culture of Corruption”
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has initiated efforts to launch a formal impeachment inquiry into Hunter’s father, President Joe Biden. He announced this move, citing a “culture of corruption” allegedly involving the Biden family.
Democrats argue that these efforts are “extremist,” while McCarthy contends that the inquiry is not politically motivated but seeks to obtain answers.
Also when asked whether President Biden would pardon his son, the Biden administration said that the President would not pardon Hunter.
