Controversial conservative commentator Candace Owens had a poignant response for a student who asked her a question about her beliefs on transgender people during a recent event at the University of Albany. She also continued to take aim at those who are offended by her beliefs on social media following her speaking engagement.
Taking Center Stage
Candace Owens might be 8 months pregnant, but she hasn’t let that stop her from touring the country with Turning Point USA as part of TPUSA’s Live Free Tour. She has spoken at numerous schools throughout the country in 2023 on behalf of the non-profit organization that specializes in promoting conservative politics in high schools and on college campuses.
Most recently, the conservative commentator, who serves as a host for The Daily Wire, attended a speaking engagement at the University of Albany.
Answering the Tough Questions
During her appearance at the University of Albany, Owens was fielding questions from students who showed up to hear her speak when she was asked a question by a student that would spark some controversy.
Owens has been very vocal about her disdain for the transgender community in the past, and this student wanted to know how Owens felt knowing that her presence made some students at the University of Albany uncomfortable. “What do you have to say to the trans students on this campus who feel actively victimized by your presence here?” the student asked.
Pulling No Punches
Owens allowed the student to ask this question. But she didn’t waste any time firing back at the student for posing it. She also took aim at anyone who may have felt offended by her decision to attend a Turning Point USA event at the school. “Life’s tough, get a helmet, man,” Owens said. “I’m too pregnant for this.”
Getting a Mixed Response
A video of Owens’ answer to the student’s question started circulating online shortly after the event at the University of Albany ended. It showed Owens getting a mixed response from those in attendance.
Some of the students who were at the Live Free Tour stop could be seen and heard cheering for Owens. Others either stayed silent or looked upset with the way she chose to respond to the question.
Adding Fuel to the Fire
Owens herself would later share the video in question on X. She would also add a caption to it that would take the controversy surrounding her original answer to the University of Albany student’s question to the next level.
“I am over 8 months pregnant with two toddlers at home,” she wrote. “If you are a 20-year-old adult who feels ‘actively victimized’ by my standing on stage to speak about social and economic conservatism, it is because your parents failed you, entirely. It is not my job to coddle adults.”
Stirring Up More Outrage
Owens’ reaction to the outrage over her answer would only serve to kick up even more dust on social media. While some people praised Owens for being “brave” and thanked her for delivering “straight talk” on X, others were obviously upset with how she chose to handle a question from a college student.
They referred to her words as “nasty quips” and accused her of being a “shill who will say anything for money.” But Owens didn’t seem to mind these reactions. Within just 24 hours of her appearance at the University of Albany, she was already selling autographed “Life’s tough, get a helmet, man” sweatshirts on the Daily Wire website for $75 each.
