“IMPEACH the BUM”: Is Donald Trump Pulling the Strings on Upcoming Biden Impeachment Inquiry?

As Republicans prepare to drag President Biden through the impeachment wringer, they have a ghost from the past whispering in their ears. Can you guess who’s still calling the shots? Here is the full story.

Everything’s in Place

On September 12, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy announced that Republicans were moving ahead with their plans to try and impeach President Joe Biden.

It’s a move that the GOP has been batting around for years, even before the 2020 election results were official. It became a lead pipe lock when the Republicans took over the House of Representatives in January of 2023.

But it’s not just McCarthy or even outspoken Biden adversaries in the House, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, who are leading this charge.

Republicans have some outside help and plenty of baggage from the past to fuel their fire in this fight.

Biden Impeachment: More Than Just a Trump Talking Point

According to a report from Politico, former president Donald Trump has been speaking with key members of GOP leadership on a regular basis. And a Biden impeachment has been a major talking point.

Chief among Trump’s insiders in this matter is Elise Stefanik. She’s the chairperson of the House GOP Conference and a longtime Trump confidante.

In fact, many see Stefanik as a potential running mate for Trump if he grabs the Republican nomination in 2024.

And Stefanik has also been one of the most outspoken Republicans when it comes to impeaching Biden. She speaks to Trump “weekly,” according to Politico.

“THEY DID IT TO US”

Their latest powwow came on Tuesday night, shortly after McCarthy’s announcement and amid all sorts of backlash from the other side of the aisle.

Many Democrats see any impeachment proceedings against Biden as a petty tit-for-tat ploy by Republicans. It’s nothing more than retaliation for Trump’s two impeachments, they say.

Publicly, Trump hasn’t minced words when it comes to his views about a potential Biden impeachment.

“Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION. THEY DID IT TO US,” Trump posted on social media earlier in the summer.

Revenge-Motivated Moves?

That post smacks of the sort of revenge-motivated actions Democrats accuse the GOP of employing in the current move for impeachment.

The party line from McCarthy and other Republicans is more above-board, naturally.

The chief reasons the GOP usually cites for opening the impeachment inquiry center around the president’s son, Hunter Biden.

According to Republican rhetoric, they are very concerned that President Biden used his position to aid corrupt business practices by Hunter and then to cover them up.

Muddy U.S. Politics

But as long as Teflon Don is on the sidelines pulling the strings, it’s going to be hard to shake the perception that U.S. politics have slid all the way into the mud.

You have to figure Democrats are already warming up their impeachment machine for a third shot at Trump should he somehow land back in the Oval Office.

And, somewhere, a Republican hopeful is surely building a dossier on reasons to impeach President Kamala Harris. You know, just in case.
