The first time Kirby became interested in garment care was while taking a costume design course in college, while studying at the University of Texas at Austin. This was the course where he built an entire jacket from the ground up, a task he still views as one of the most challenging of his life.
Early Life
As the middle child, Allison spent most of his childhood in Houston’s suburb of Spring, Texas. He was very involved in student government at Westfield High School and was named Mustang of the Year in his senior year. He graduated from Austin’s University of Texas, earning a BBA in Finance and an undergraduate degree in Economics. He also belonged to the highly regarded Tejas social club.
Career
Allison worked as a financial analyst for FTI Consulting after graduating from college in Dallas, Texas. During his tenure at FTI Consulting, Allison developed an exclusive wood suit hanger that he marketed on the side to other menswear lovers.
The Wall Street Journal reviewed his suit hangers in November 2007, describing them as an “enthusiastic best overall”. As a result, Allison quit his job and began working full-time on The Hanger Project. This brand is now known as Kirby Allison. With time, Allison’s product line expanded into accessories for clothing as well as luxury shoe care.
Family
Kirby Allison is a member of the Episcopalian faith, and his family is a part of the Church. Bianca Allison is the wife of Kirby Allison, and they have three children together.
