When Michel’le was 16, she met rapper Dr. Dre at a World Class Wreckin’ Cru performance. Soon after, they started dating, and they got engaged. The couple had a son named Marcel in 1991.
Afterwards, Dr. Dre’s reckless behavior, such as drunkenness and infidelity, caused problems in their relationship. Often, Michel’le was abused by her husband, getting bruises, rib fractures, and nose breaks.
One time, Dr. Dre fired at her, but missed only by an inch. Michel’le left Dr. Dre in 1996 after she found out he was dating someone else.
A few years later, Michel’le married Suge Knight, who was on probation for assault. After six years of marriage, she asked for a divorce, only to find out Knight wasn’t divorced from his wife Sharitha, which rendered their marriage invalid.
Just like Dr. Dre, Knight abused Michel’le as well. In 2002, they had a daughter, Bailei. Michel’le filed a lawsuit against Knight for unpaid child and spousal support later on.

As a rapper, Michel’le had a successful start to her music career. Her debut single was titled ‘Turn Off the Lights’ and it was released for World Class Wreckin’ Cru. Mona Lisa was not present at the studio so she was replaced by her.
That was a huge opportunity for Michel’le. It didn’t take long for the studio to sign her for her distinctive singing style.
Eazy-E’s Ruthless Record also signed her that year. Later, she recorded her first studio album.
Selling hundreds of thousands of copies, the album was a big hit. It was also awarded a ‘Gold’ status and was well received by music fans all over the country.
It was then nine years later that her second studio album was released by Death Row Records.
