You might already know that frozen coffee drinks are packed with sugar, but In a recent viral video on X, the website formerly known as Twitter, user David Belle breaks down just how unhealthy the ingredients are in Dunkin Doughnuts’ newest Pumpkin Swirl Frozen Coffee.
A Pumpkin Swirl Frozen Coffee
In the video originally posted on TikTok, David buys Dunking Doughnuts’ newest fall addition, a Pumpkin Swirl Frozen Coffee, and prints out a list of ingredients to go over throughout the video.
The first thing that David points out is that the drink actually contains 185 grams worth of sugar.
For reference, doctors say that men should only have 36 grams of sugar per day, and for women, it’s only 25.
Based on the doctor’s recommendations, this one drink is worth more than 5 days of sugar for men and over 7 days of sugar for women. Let’s also not forget that this is definitely something children drink as well.
A Cup Full of Sugar
To help show just how much sugar is in this drink, David pulls out a small Dunkin Doughnuts cup and fills it with 46 teaspoons worth of sugar to represent how much sugar is actually in the new drink.
By the time David is done pouring, the cup is almost halfway full of just sugar alone!
Then to further his point, he pulls out a box of doughnuts and says this one drink is actually worth 14 doughnuts worth of sugar!
No Pumpkin
David then takes a moment to look at the listed ingredients in the Pumpkin Swirl Frozen Coffee.
Turns out, there is actually no pumpkin at all, but there are 12 different mentions of sugar and high fructose corn syrup. In this drink, there are also a total of 930 calories.
Most people only need about 2,000 calories a day, but this is almost half of that in one drink. Then there is a total of 194 carbohydrates and almost all of it comes from sugar.
Doctors only recommend between 225 and 325 carbs per day and none of them would recommend the majority of their carbs come from added sugars and high fructose corn syrup.
American Health
David then points out how this might play into the health problems facing Americans, where two-thirds of the country is already type 2 diabetic or type 3 diabetic.
Making a play on Dunkin Doughnuts’ slogan, “America runs of Dunkin,” David finishes his video by saying, “If America runs on this, we’re f*****.”
The video resonated with a lot of people, who felt the need to comment on just how “dangerous” this really is.
One user commented, “so glad people are finally realizing that America is trying to kill us. there is ABSOLUTELY NO reason for this other than to cause health problems and line big pharma’s pockets, it’s literally unnatural and dangerous for a human to consume this much sugar in one sitting!!!”
Another user simply put it as “American coffee is just socially acceptable milkshakes for adults,” but at the end of the day, at least milkshakes have some protein.
