“Queer Nature” Event Leads Piers Morgan to Ask “Why Can’t We Just Have Straight Plants?”

In a recent interview, Piers Morgan criticized Kew Gardens for planning to host the Queer Nature event and sexualizing plants. Here’s the whole story.

“Queer Nature”

The event held by Kew Gardens aimed to spread a “sprinkle of queer joy” while celebrating the “healing powers of queer nature.”

However, this celebration has sparked controversy, particularly from right-wing commentator Piers Morgan, who questioned the notion of queerness in nature.

Piers Morgan took issue with the Queer Nature event, particularly focusing on the sexualization of plants.

Queer Mushrooms?

Talking to comedian James Barr at Sky News Australia, Morgan said that “there’s nothing sexual about mushrooms.”

“My question for all of this is, why? Why are we having some queer celebration of things like mushrooms?” he asked.

James answered by highlighting studies that have identified mushrooms with approximately 23,000 different genders.

“Why Can’t We Just Have Straight Plants?”

Morgan said, “We’ve just had Pride month, where the entire month was taken up with turning everything LGBTQ … Why can’t we just have straight plants?”

“I just don’t understand why you care,” Barr replied.

Tomi Lahren, a prominent Trump supporter, joined the conversation, expressing concerns about the increasing complexity of gender identifications.

23,000 Genders

Lahren argued that the LGBTQ+ spectrum was already challenging for many to grasp, and the inclusion of 23,000 genders for mushrooms further complicated matters.

She said, “Why does everything have to be about ‘queer this, gay that’? Why is that the only thing that leftists seem to respond to? It’s either race, gender, or climate change.”

Critics argue that Kew Gardens’ Queer Nature event is emblematic of a broader shift towards going woke.

Asking “What is a Woman?”

However, this is not the first time Piers Morgan slammed an LGBTQ event.

He has a history of engaging in contentious discussions surrounding LGBTQ+ topics.

Notably, he frequently poses the question, “What is a woman?” in interviews.

In 2020, he faced criticism for his views on Trans women participating in women’s sports.
