R&B Star Ne-Yo Slams Parents Who Allow “Life-Changing” Gender Transitions for Kids

R&B artist Ne-Yo strongly criticized parents who permit their young children to make decisions about their gender, questioning the notion of allowing kids to make “life-changing decisions” during an interview.

Perplexed at the Idea of Young Children Making Significant Life Choices

Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, talked about parents who allow their minor children to undergo puberty blockers and hormone treatments, asserting that they have veered from their parental role.

“Parents have almost forgotten what the role of a parent is,” Ne-Yo remarked, expressing his perplexity at the idea of young children making significant life choices.

He illustrated his point by stating, “If you let this five-year-old boy decide to eat candy all day, he’s going to do that… Like when did it become a good idea to let a five-year-old, let a six-year-old, let a 12-year-old make a life-changing decision for themselves? When did that happen? Like, I don’t understand that. I don’t get that.”

They Are Allowed To Decide Their Gender?

Ne-Yo further highlighted the inconsistency, mentioning that while a young child can’t legally drive a car yet, they are allowed to decide their gender.

This arises amidst a recent surge in discussions about children’s right to choose their gender identity.

He conveyed that while he has no issues with the LGBTQ+ community, his upbringing adhered to a more traditional view of gender identity.

A Man Was a Man and a Woman Was a Woman

“I have no issue with the L-,B-,G-, I have no problem with none of y’all, with nobody,” he clarified.

“Love who you love, do what you do. I just personally come from an era where a man was a man and a woman was a woman. And it wasn’t but two genders and that’s just how I rocked it.”

“It’s Just, We Live in a Weird Time, Man.”

Ne-Yo also addressed the expanding landscape of gender identities, saying, “Now you could identify as goldfish if you feel like it, that isn’t my business… It becomes my business when you try to make me play the game with you.”

Concluding his thoughts, Ne-Yo underscored the unique times we live in, stating, “It’s just, we live in a weird time, man.”
