Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is once again making headlines, this time over his rage about Bud Light’s partnership with Trans TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney. Here’s the full story.
Fueling His War on Woke
DeSantis has taken the matter to a new level, threatening legal action against Anheuser-Busch InBev, the parent company of Bud Light.
The short Instagram video announcing the collaboration between Dylan Mulvaney, a Trans social media influencer, and Bud Light caused a considerable uproar among right-wingers and conservatives.
Many viewed this partnership as a promotion of what they saw as radical social ideologies.
Some Republicans, including Ron DeSantis, seized on this opportunity to fuel their “war on woke,” using the partnership as a rallying cry.
“Ideology Ahead of Returns Should Be On Notice”
As the controversy escalated, Governor Ron DeSantis took matters into his own hands, urging the agency managing Florida’s pension fund to launch an investigation into Anheuser-Busch InBev.
In a letter, DeSantis accused the company of breaching its legal duties to shareholders by associating the Bud Light brand with what he perceived as radical social ideologies.
DeSantis tweeted, “All options are on the table and woke corporations that put ideology ahead of returns should be on notice.”
He asserted that AB InBev had not followed its fiduciary duty to shareholders and pensioners in collaborating with Mulvaney.
“It Impacts Hardworking People”
DeSantis told Fox News, “When you start pursuing a political agenda at the expense of your shareholders, that’s not just impacting very wealthy people. It impacts hardworking people who were police officers, firefighters, and teachers in terms of the pension.”
He claimed that Florida held over $50 million worth of InBev stock in its pension funds.
As a result, he called on to take legal action against the beer brand.
DeSantis Is Launching an Inquiry About Trans Partnership
He said, “So we’re going to be launching an inquiry about Bud Light and InBev, and it could be something that leads to a derivative lawsuit filed on behalf of the shareholders of the Florida pension fund because, at the end of the day, there’s got to be penalties when you put business aside to focus on your social agenda at the expense of hardworking people.”
This is not the first time Ron DeSantis has clashed with corporations over what he perceives as “woke” ideologies.
His ongoing feud with Disney, triggered by the animation giant’s CEO speaking out against Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” legislation, has drawn attention and criticism.
Legal Disputes
DeSantis took measures to strip Disney of its special tax status in the state, leading to legal disputes as the corporation alleged its first amendment rights were violated.
DeSantis’ aggressive stance against corporations has been a subject of controversy among Republican lawmakers.
Several social media users expressed their thoughts on the incident.
“Bro Is Suing a Corporation Because of a 40-Second Ad Hosted by a Trans Person. Actual Loser Behavior”
One Twitter user wrote, “Bro is suing a corporation because of a 40-second ad hosted by a trans person. Actual loser behavior”
Another user wrote, “Isn’t this just a breach of the 1st amendment? He as a political figure is trying to use his power in a political office to attack a company because of its views, a clear breach of the 1st amendment.”
