In a shocking display of racial discrimination, a white therapist in Georgia has been fired from her job after confronting a black man fishing in the lake near her house. Here’s what happened.
He Ignited a Fierce Debate
The incident, captured on video and posted on TikTok by Anthony Gibson, an aspiring actor and social media influencer, has ignited a fierce debate about racial profiling and the rights of minorities in predominantly white neighborhoods.
Gibson, a resident of Columbus, Georgia, often visits the lake in his neighborhood to fish and share his fishing experiences on social media.
However, his presence in the area has not gone unnoticed by some of the locals, who repeatedly questioned why he was there, claiming that the lake was for residents only.
In the viral TikTok video, Gibson filmed his encounter with the white therapist, identified as Tanya, as she approached him and a friend to inquire about their residency status.
Garnering over 7.5 Million Views
Tanya’s inquiry immediately raised concerns of racial bias, as she singled out Gibson and his friend, seemingly based on their appearance.
The video garnered an astonishing 7.5 million views, sparking outrage and condemnation across social media platforms.
In the footage, Tanya can be seen asking whether they were residents while simultaneously taking a picture of their license plates, suggesting she would report them for fishing in the area.
Reacting to the incident, Gibson expressed his frustration, revealing that this was not the first time he faced such discrimination in his own neighborhood.
White Residents Challenged Him Often
He recounted several other instances where white residents challenged his right to be there, and one man even claimed to be part of the Home Owners’ Association and demanded their addresses.
In response, Gibson and his friends asked for the man’s address but declined to provide theirs, as they felt they were being harassed unjustly.
Sources revealed that Gibson’s father is a registered homeowner in the gated community where the lake is located.
Therefore, Gibson had every right to fish in the lake without a license as a guest of a resident, dispelling any doubts about his entitlement to be there.
His Challenger Was Fired for Her Racist Remarks
As the video continued to gain traction, Sea Glass Therapy, Tanya’s employer, took swift action, severing ties with her as a freelance member of their team.
The therapy company released a statement on Facebook, emphasizing its commitment to acceptance, healing, and inclusion of all individuals, irrespective of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or background.
They firmly denounced all forms of discrimination and stated their decision to terminate the business relationship with Tanya.
It’s Time to File a Lawsuit
Several viewers expressed their thoughts on the incident.
One TikTok user wrote, “At this point file a lawsuit against the neighbors and the police that keep coming out there they have to be aware of the other calls.”
Another user added, “Fish every day. They will get tired. It shouldn’t be that way but keep going.”
