In a recent interview, Nancy Pelosi did not hold back in expressing her disapproval of the Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into President Biden and drew distinctions between this inquiry and the previous impeachments of former President Trump. Here’s the full story.
A Tale of Two Impeachment Inquiries
During an interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, the 83-year-old politician began by saying, “They’ve had months, almost this whole year, going on nine months of investigations. They’ve come up with nothing.”
Pelosi went on to draw a sharp contrast between the impeachment of Trump and the current inquiry into President Biden.
She explained, “When we engaged in impeaching [Trump] because we had no choice, we were accusing him of high crimes and misdemeanors, which were evident. And even Republican senators voted for in terms of Ukraine and in terms of the assault on the Capitol. But this is almost silly, except that it’s so serious.”
A “Frivolous” Distraction
The former Speaker voiced concerns that the ongoing impeachment inquiry would divert attention from more pressing national issues.
She continued, “This is sinful. Again, it’s about values. Our budget should be a statement of our values. And what is important to us as a nation should be reflected there.”
“Our Constitution is what we take an oath to protect and defend. And in both cases, they’re being frivolous,” she added.
“Abuse of Power”
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced the inquiry into President Biden earlier in the month.
The decision to launch the investigation was prompted by rumors suggesting potential illegal foreign business dealings involving the 80-year-old President and his son, Hunter Biden.
“These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption,” McCarthy said when announcing the inquiry.
Trump Has His Say
Former President Trump also weighed in on the impeachment inquiry during an interview with Megyn Kelly.
Trump implied that if the Democrats had not impeached him twice during his presidency, the current inquiry into President Biden might not have occurred.
He said, “And it’s a shame when that happens. I’m not in favor of that, but that’s what’s going to happen because that’s human nature.”
“Nancy Pelosi Belongs in Jail.”
Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.
One user wrote, “That’s all you did Nancy, when Trump was in office. One impeachment after another.”
Another user added, “She is a hypocrite. Nancy Pelosi belongs in jail.”
A third user humorously commented, “There isn’t any way this isn’t satire. It’s got to be satire,” while another added, “And yet she started it and wasted millions of taxpayers’ dollars in the fake and frivolous process”
A fourth user wrote, “This person is truly evil. A very nasty, nasty person. She made sure to keep the “Speaker Emerita” title… that shows you the hunger they have for power…. Term limits now!”
