Snowflake White? Rachel Zegler Throws Shade on a Disney CLASSIC – Was Casting Her a Mistake?

Rachel Zegler’s upcoming role as Snow White has ignited a debate on feminism and its intersection with classic cinema. Here’s the whole story.

Questions Over the Casting of the Disney Princess Role!

After interviews resurfaced, the 22-year-old actress has found herself at the center of a storm, revealing her critiques of the 1937 classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

These remarks have left many questioning the casting choice for such a cherished Disney Princess role and the implications of her actions.

“I just mean that it’s no longer 1937. She’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love,” she said in an interview with Variety in 2022.

“She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true,” she explained.

Why Not Keep the Spirit of the Original Character

However, this departure from the original source material did not sit well with everyone.

Critics questioned the necessity of these changes and whether they truly aligned with the spirit of the original character.

Zegler further shared her thoughts at the Disney D23 Expo, raising eyebrows with her comments on the 1937 cartoon.

She criticized the portrayal of Snow White’s love story, highlighting the prince’s seemingly problematic behavior of stalking.

“Weird! Weird! So We Didn’t Do That This Time”

“The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so. There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! Weird! So we didn’t do that this time,” she said.

“We have a different approach to what I’m sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because we cast a guy in the movie,” she added.

Several social media users expressed their frustrations at her comments.

A TikTok user wrote, “If you hate the original this much, why would you want to make the remake?”

“I Don’t Want To Be Included in That Part of Womanhood”

Another user commented, “So instead of revising the story such that Prince Charming makes non-stalker advances and develops the Snow White/Prince Charming relationship more, she wants to… remove him from the story entirely?

One Twitter user also expressed their frustration, saying, “Is she supposed to be uplifting us as women? Because it sounds terrible and I don’t want to be included in that part of womanhood.”

A third user wrote, “Thank goodness we’ll finally get a version that depicts Snow pursuing what truly matters in life: The raw Will to Power! The world clearly needs as many would-be female dictators as possible.”
