In a recent Reddit post that got more than fourteen thousand upvotes, a user found themselves in a heated confrontation with their brother’s pregnant girlfriend over a meal at their own house. Here’s the full story.
She Was Pregnant and Certain Smells Made Her Queasy
The Original Poster (OP), is a 27-year-old living alone. OP’s brother, 21, and his fiancée, 19, continue to reside with their parents due to their inability to pay for their own apartment. Currently, the fiancée is pregnant and due in four months.
The story began when OP agreed to his brother’s request to bring his girlfriend to lunch so that they could catch up.
But as soon as she walked into OP’s house, she began griping about the aroma of the steak he was cooking, saying that it made her queasy and that she couldn’t eat it.
OP tried to offer a substitute, but she insisted on Chinese food and sent OP’s brother to the nearby mall to fetch some for her.
She Dumped His Cooking Steak in the Trash
OP thought that would be the end of it, but after using the restroom and returning, OP saw her dump his steak which was cooking in the trash.
OP was shocked and furious and asked her what the hell she was doing and she replied that the smell was so bad that she worried she could puke on the floor and that she wanted to get rid of it.
She then took perfume from her purse and started spraying it in OP’s kitchen.
OP was so enraged that he yelled at her to go back to the living room, and when his brother returned from the mall, OP took the food and threw it out, and yelled at them to get out.
“She Was Still a Teenager and Was Being Affected by Her Pregnancy Hormones”
OP’s brother tried to talk him out of it, saying that they could cook something else for the two of them and his girlfriend was practically crying by this point.
However, OP was adamant about having them in his house and then they left.
Later, OP’s parents became upset with him for allegedly upsetting his brother’s expectant girlfriend so much.
They disagreed, saying that OP shouldn’t have yelled at her or asked them to leave because she was still a teenager and was being affected by her pregnancy hormones.
“… If She’s Mature Enough To Be Pregnant”
They also claimed that OP’s outburst damaged their relationship because she had a big fight with his brother.
OP took to Reddit to ask whether he was wrong for what he did and more than a thousand comments poured in supporting OP.
One Reddit user wrote, “NTA. I’m pregnant too. My sense of smell is heightened. I would never dream of throwing away someone else’s food. If I had that much of a problem with it, I’d leave. Yes, she’s a teenager. But if she’s mature enough to have a child, she’s mature enough to know you don’t go into someone else’s house and throw away their food.”
Another Redditor commented, “NTA. I can completely understand the smell being too much for her, I was like that when I was pregnant. But the solution was for her to leave. Throwing away someone else’s food was way over the line.”
So what do you think? What would you do if you were in OP’s situation?
