Former President Donald Trump has reignited his feud with “woke” women’s soccer sensation Megan Rapinoe, all thanks to her missed penalty kick that led to the exit of the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) from the Women’s World Cup.
Advocate for LGBT’s Rights Missed Penalty
A fiery feud between Donald Trump and Megan Rapinoe has re-erupted as the USWNT faced an unexpected downfall in the Women’s World Cup.
The reigning champions hit rock bottom, leaving fans stunned as their Women’s World Cup journey sealed their brutal fate in Australia.
The USWNT’s dreams shatter in a nail-biting penalty shootout against Sweden, with a 5-4 loss that no one saw coming. Who missed the deciding penalty? You guessed it.
Megan Rapinoe, a star player, faced a heart-wrenching moment as she missed a crucial penalty kick during the intense match.
Rapinoe’s glittering international career concluded in a bitter twist, as her final appearance for the USWNT ended in disappointment.
A celebrated advocate for LGBT+ rights and gender equality, Rapinoe left the world stage with an empowering message.
Seizing the moment, Donald Trump took to social media to taunt the USWNT’s downfall on Truth Social.
In a daring post on Truth Social, Trump argued, “The ‘shocking and totally unexpected’ loss by the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to Sweden is fully emblematic of what is happening to our once great Nation under Crooked Joe Biden.”
“WOKE EQUALS FAILURE”
Trump used the defeat as ammunition to fuel his claims of America’s downward spiral under the current administration.
Trump accused the USWNT’s lack of patriotism as what led to their defeat, “Many of our players were openly hostile to America – No other country behaved in such a manner, or even close.”
Trump also used the unfortunate penalty miss to spread national fear, “WOKE EQUALS FAILURE. Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA,” He ranted.
Clashes between Trump and Rapinoe aren’t uncommon; back in 2019, Rapinoe openly opposed his administration before the Women’s World Cup that year.
“Megan Should Never Disrespect Our Country”
That year, Rapinoe declared her refusal to visit the White House in case of a World Cup win: “No. I’m not going to the White House, I don’t think we’ll be invited, I doubt it,” sparking a Twitter tirade from Trump himself.
Trump took to Twitter to express his anger, “Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear.”
After the USNWT did win the Women’s World Cup in 2019, Rapinoe stuck by her word, calling out Trump with, “Your message is excluding people. You’re excluding me, you’re excluding people that look like me, you’re excluding people of colour, you’re excluding Americans that maybe support you.”
Despite winning the World Cup, Rapinoe never visited the White House but did visit Washington to meet with progressive politicians such as Nancy Pelosi.
Rapinoe accepted President Biden’s invite to the White House, disproving Trump’s theory of a lack of patriotism and receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
