Residents in Coquitlam, British Columbia, are up in arms after a childcare group’s advertising campaign wrote “Whites Only” in large letters.
‘Whites-Only’ Mom-and-Tots Group
A shocking sign promoting a “whites-only” mom-and-tots group surfaced in Coquitlam, British Columbia, causing immediate outrage, including a reaction from the Mayor.
The sign’s despicable message preyed on racial segregation, urging parents to join an exclusive group based on their ethnicity, “Join us for whites-only moms & tots.”
Shockingly, the sign continued with the dark question, “Are you looking for somewhere your children can play with others that look like them?”
It went on to imply that white children were now the minority in schools, “Are they tired of being a minority in their schools and daycares?”
The sign took a jab at what they called “forced diversity” before hailing their European heritage, “Escape forced ‘diversity’ and join other proud parents of European children as we create an atmosphere in which our kids can feel like they belong,” it read.
Diversity and Inclusivity for All
Social media exploded with fury as the image of the racist sign circulated, prompting calls for punishment from the community.
The city officials quickly released a statement condemning the discriminatory message, “We are aware of the exclusionary and racist notices posted in our community,” it began.
The city’s statement reaffirmed its commitment to spreading inclusion and diversity, “The City of Coquitlam is deeply committed to fostering an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion for all its residents,” it continued.
“We want to make it unequivocally clear that such practices and sentiments have no place in our city,” the message said, “Discrimination and prejudice have no place in our society, as they run contrary to the values that we uphold as a community.”
“Vile Garbage”
The shocking note included a link inviting parents to the “whites-only moms and tots” gathering, igniting further anger.
Furious internet users flooded platforms like Reddit and X, with one Reddit user saying, “These racists don’t live in reality,” before a high-up figure in the town got involved too.
Mayor of Port Coquitlam, Brad West, expressed his outrage over the sign, assuring swift action to address this despicable act, “This vile garbage isn’t welcome in our community, or anywhere else.”
The Mayor asserted that someone beat them to the removal of the sign, “As soon as it was brought to our attention, Bylaw officers immediately searched the area & all bus stops, but no signs were present. Perhaps being removed by someone else.”
Community members joined together, asserting that there’s no place for racism in their town, showing a community coming together against the force of hate.
