A heartwarming moment unfolded at a town hall event in Hollis, New Hampshire, where a World War II veteran heaped praise on Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
A Moving Encounter
David, the veteran, initiated the moving encounter by introducing himself as a WWII veteran, drawing applause from the attendees. Ramaswamy approached David, extending his hand in respect.
David went on to express his admiration for Ramaswamy’s message, which resonated with the values of the greatest generation.
He fondly recalled a time when patriotism and unity were prevalent in American society.
People would stand at attention and cross their hearts when the flag passed by in a parade, and school started with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
David emphasized that children as young as 12 or 13 would leave school to join the military out of a deep sense of duty to their nation.
He spoke of the loyalty and pride in America that once prevailed, saying, “There was a loyalty and pride in America. Children were leaving school at 12, 13 years old and joined the service to protect our country. It was one country — America. And I like your policies. I love to hear it because it’s what I remember. Thank you very much.”
“You’re My Hero”
His heartfelt words elicited another round of applause and a standing ovation from the audience.
Moved by David’s sentiments, Ramaswamy approached him again, embracing him, and expressed his gratitude for David’s service to the country.
In return, David declared, “You’re my hero.”
Ramaswamy reciprocated the sentiment, saying, “You’re my hero.”
A Century Apart
He later shared pictures of himself with David on his social media platform, X and wrote, “David is a WWII veteran who came to our event in Dover, NH this morning. He met my son, who was born a full century after him. David’s generation laid the foundation, now we’re rebuilding it for the next one. Humbled to have earned his support.”
Ramaswamy’s presidential campaign has gained significant momentum in recent months. As a biotech entrepreneur, he had limited national recognition before the 2024 race.
His impressive performance in the first Republican primary debate last month significantly boosted his visibility. Recent polling data from Fox News show Ramaswamy’s rising prominence.
He currently holds third place with 11% support among primary voters. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis closely follows with 13%, while former President Donald Trump maintains a decisive lead with 60%.
When voters consider their second choice in case Trump does not participate, DeSantis and Ramaswamy are in a neck-and-neck competition.
